BAY HARBOR ISLANDS, Fla. – Ousted Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel is a finalist to become the police chief of Bay Harbor Islands in Miami Dade County.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis removed Israel as Broward sheriff last year for mishandling the Parkland school shooting. Then he ran, unsuccessfully, three months ago against appointed Sheriff Gregory Tony. Israel is one of three finalists for the chief’s job and moves into the next phase of interviews.

Prior to being Broward County Sheriff, Israel was police chief in North Bay Village.
It’s unclear when the new chief will be selected in Bay Harbor Islands.
Also, his attorney declined to say whether Israel can collect a pension for his years as sheriff.
