If the rumors are true, Gerrit Cole could be coming into a large sum of money very soon. Sources tell ESPN that the Yankees are prepared to offer the right-hander a record deal.
There’s an expectation of a bidding war between New York and Los Angeles for the 29-year-old free-agent, which could reach upwards of $250 million.
The previous record contract for a pitcher was set in 2015 when the Red Sox handed over $217 million to David Price for seven years.
According to MLB insider Jon Heyman, Cole told executives at Thursday’s four-hour meeting that he has “no West Coast bias”.
