Why did Rob Gronkowski come out of retirement?
The 31-year-old tight end retired after the 2018 citing pain and injuries he had suffered throughout his career had taken a toll on his mental health.
After a year away from football, a year in which the Patriots and Tom Brady lost to the Tennessee Titans in the playoffs, Tom Brady made a move to Tampa.
One of the first people he reached out to was Gronk.
Gronk told NBC Sports Brady reached out to him asking if they wanted to reunite with the Bucs.
“I’ve been waiting on you,” Gronkowski said he told Brady. “I’ve been waiting for you to make a move!”
After winning three Super Bowls together with the Patriots, the duo won their fourth title together in their first year in Tampa.
Gronkowski said the 43-year-old Brady told him about his plans to leave New England before the news broke back on March 20 of last year. A month and a series of conversations later, Gronkowski ended his 13-month retirement.
