DJ LeMahieu has shown that he can do anything and everything on a baseball field.
But the one thing that he hadn’t done in a Yankee uniform is hit a walk-off home run.
He got his opportunity last night and delivered against the Oakland Athletics, a team that has been the Achilles heel for the Yankees.
LeMahieu, a batting title and MVP contender in his first season with the Pinstripes, was struggling on the day going 0 for 4 with three strikeouts before sending a 97 mph fastball from Lou Trivino to right field for his 24th homer of the season.
Yankees Skipper Aaron Boone was relieved to finally beat Oakland.
”Finally got one against those guys,” manager Aaron Boone said.
Aaron Judge added to the home run party by tying the game with 2 outs left in the 8th inning, while Gary Sanchez went yard twice in the Yankees 7-6 win vs Oakland.
”It’s lots of fun,” Sanchez said through a translator. ”We have a powerful lineup and any given moment any of our guys can hit a homer. That’s no secret.”
The Yankees have now demolished the previous record which was Orioles, Mariners (58) record for most homers in a single month and stand alone at 74.
It has been a historical season for the Bronx Bombers and they will look to split the series vs Oakland at 1:05pm as Sean Manaea takes the mound against J.A Happ.
