In a game where Florida Atlantic had over 40 players either out due to Covid-19 or injured since training camp, the Owls battled #22 ranked Michigan valiantly but came up short as the Thundering Herd took sole possession of the 1st in Conference USA play.
The FAU offense came to life in the second quarter after RB Malcolm Davidson ground and pounded his way into the endzone for an 11 yard TD run. However, the Owls struggled for most of the day as QB Nick Tronti threw for 148 yards and failed to throw a TD pass with 1 int.
The FAU defense continued to remain a bright spot as they intercepted Thundering Herd QB Grant Wells twice. But the Herd were able to seal the victory after 2 big plays that included a 41 yard td reception by WR Artie Henry and a 51 yd TD by Conference USA leading rusher, RB Brenden Knox.
After the game, FAU Head Coach Willie Taggart stated that he thought his qb and the offense as a whole “could’ve played much better” in their 20-9 loss to Marshall.
FAU is expected to have a majority of their players back for next Saturday as the UTSA Roadrunners come to Boca Raton. The game is scheduled for 12pm and pregame at 11 am. Be sure to catch all the action right here on Fox Sports 640.
