A minor league Fresno Grizzlies team is apologizing for a controversial Memorial Day tribute video that was shown during Monday’s doubleheader.
The video included patriotic imagery over a speech by Ronald Reagan. But late in the video, as Reagan mentions “the enemies of America”, it showed an image of U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in between pictures of Kim Jong Un and Fidel Castro.
In a statement, the Grizzlies said they did not produce the video themselves and that they are “embarrassed we allowed this video to play without seeing it in its entirety first.”
The team also said they “unconditionally apologize to Rep. Ocasio Cortez in addition to our fans, community and those we hurt.” promising to “ensure that nothing like this ever happens again”.
The Fresno Grizzlies are a Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals.
How do you think this video aired? Did they just pull it off of Youtube? Do you think it was truly a mistake or did someone cue up the video intentionally?
