Authorities in Miami are reporting that an off-duty officer was forced to shoot a suspect who attempted to break into his ex’s home while his 13-year-old son was inside.

The incident was reported Monday afternoon in the West Miami-Dade area.

Officials say the teen was at his mother’s home when he heard someone trying to break into the back of the house. He then called his parents. The father came to the home and confronted the suspect and during the confrontation, shots were fired.

The suspect who was only identified as being 30-years-old, was taken to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.

The officer and teen were not injured.
