It’s Gleyber Day! Yanks Beat Nats

It was Gleyber Day folks… We got to see Stanton and Judge hit the ball well in the first two games, but the day belonged to Gleyber Torres. He blasted a 7th inning Home Run and a go-ahead RBI single in the 8th inning as part of a 3-for-4 performance and lead the Yankees to a 3-2 comeback victory over the Nationals. Also, Luke Voit contributed by smacking a solo Home Run into the left-field seats to tie the game 2-2 in the 7th inning.

Jonathan Loaisiga pitched okay, but appeared shaky early on before settling in. He limited the Nationals to 1 run on 2 hits with 1 walk and 3 Ks in 3 innings. Adam Ottavino and Chad Green combined for 3 scoreless innings in relief while Tommy Kahnle used his changeup heavily to escape the bottom of the 8th inning with the bases loaded.

Zack Britton closed out the game and it marked his first save as interim closer due to Aroldis Chapman having to open the season on the COVID-19 injured list.

New York took two of three games in the season-opening series against the defending World Series champions.
