Officials in Monroe County are stating that they may have found human remains in a wooded area near the Boca Chica Bridge.

The discovery was made Sunday afternoon near the south end of the bridge in Key West.

A passerby noticed a few bones while walking their dog near Mile Marker 5.5 and call authorities.

During an investigation, officials say they uncovered more bones in a campsite and believe they might belong to a human.

The bones have since been turned over to the Monroe County Medical Examiner who is currently studying the remains.
