The U.S. advances in the World Cup after beating Iran 1-nil Tuesday in a win-or-go-home contest. The Americans needed to win their Group B finale to move on, and they did by surviving some incredibly tense moments in second-half stoppage time and injuries to Christian Pulisic and Josh Sargent. Pulisic suffered an abdominal injury while scoring the team’s lone goal after running into the Iranian goaltender.
The U.S. squad finished second in the group behind England and will face Group A winner Netherlands on Saturday at 10 a.m. Eastern as they will look to make their first appearance in the quarterfinals since the only time they ever did it back in 2002.
