Coco Gauff has become the youngest American in 13 years to reach the U.S. Open quarterfinals.
The 18-year-old Floridian reached the milestone Sunday at Arthur Ashe Stadium, where she beat China’s Zhang Shuai 7-5, 7-5. The last time an American made it that far was in 2009, when 17-year-old Melanie Oudin did it.
Gauff is next scheduled to face France’s Caroline Garcia on Tuesday at 7pm.
Another big result for an American player happened yesterday when Frances Tiafoe completed a huge upset over the 2nd seeded Rafael Nadal.
