Dont’a Hightower Opts Out of NFL Season, One Of Many Patriots To Miss The Season

The Patriots are losing another player for the 2020 season.

ESPN reports that New England linebacker Dont’a Hightower is opting out of this season because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Other Patriots opting out: tackle Marcus Cannon, fullback Danny Vitale, guard Najee Toran, and running back Brandon Bolden.

Hightower was set to make a base salary of $8 million, but will instead get a $150,000 stipend.

The Patriots have a lot of holes to fill, especially after Kyle Van Noy and Jamie Collins departed as free agents this offseason.

The Pats also lost QB Tom Brady to Tampa Bay.
