On Monday, former federal judge Sue L. Robinson formally handed Deshaun Watson a six-game suspension for violating the personal conduct policy, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The NFL still has the opportunity to appeal the suspension, but the NFLPA and Watson have both stated they would not be doing so.
Watson was formerly seen as a player of interest for the Miami Dolphins throughout this past year, but Stephen Ross and company decided to stay away from the quarterback after his cases hadn’t been settled and a nondisclosure agreement hadn’t been signed, according to Watson’s lawyer, Rusty Hardin.
If the suspension holds, Watson will be expected to return to the Cleveland Browns in week 7 when the team travels to face off against their division rival, the Baltimore Ravens.
Watson will then face the defending AFC Champion Cincinnati Bengals, enjoy their bye week, and then travel to Miami.
Watson vs Tua will be a highly anticipated matchup in which both quarterbacks will have extra fuel in the fire.
Tua is starting to make heads turn in training camp by connecting with deep bombs to the electric Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, and co.
More importantly, he has a coaching staff that flat out believes in him.
Watson hasn’t played a snap since the end of 2020 and was ultimately passed up by Miami because of the uncertainty in his case.
The motive for both players couldn’t be any more clearer and now we get a late season showdown between the two.
