After being criticized early and often for his questionable lineup changes, it seems that Aaron Boone has settled into his managerial role and getting the absolute most out of his entire lineup.

On Saturday, the Yankees defeated the Royals 7-3 in the first game of the doubleheader with a much needed solid outing from J.A Happ and Luke Voit “hitting to Detroit” as play-by-play announcer John Sterling would say.

The second game of the doubleheader in Kansas City featured some key lineup and pitching changes by Aaron Boone and paid off dividends.

Austin Romine took over for Gary Sanchez at catcher and contributed with 3 singles and 2 RBI’s from the 9th spot in the lineup. LF Cameron Maybin also had 2 hits, 3 RBI’s, and scored a run from the 10th spot.

It was a well needed effort from the anchors of the lineup after the top 4 hitters (LeMahieu, Gardner, Voit, and Torres) collectively finished 2 for 18 at the plate.

The Yankees decided to go with Chad Green as the starting pitcher, but he only lasted one inning as Chance Adams replaced him and picked up his first career victory despite 2 errors on poor fielding by Gardner and Frazier.

The bullpen seems to be getting back to their 2018 form as Jonathan Holder, Zack Britton, Tommy Kahnle all pitched scoreless innings and Aroldis Chapman, despite allowing a 9th inning run, recorded his 14th save of the season and 25oth of his career.

The Yankees defeated the Royals 6-5 and more importantly, won their 7th straight game. They now have a 3-game lead over the Tampa Bay Rays in the A.L East and will go for the complete sweep in Kansas City today at 2:15pm.

Tonight should be a solid pitching matchup as LHP Danny Duffy 313.45 ERA23 SO takes the mound against RHP Domingo German 912.60 ERA57 SO as he goes for his 10th win of the season.
