The Big 10 college conference announced Wednesday that the 2020 season will commence on the weekend of October 23-24.
The decision is the result of months of research and planning by conference and school officials.
Daily COVID-19 tests will be conducted for staff and athletes prior to each practice or game and anyone who tests positive will not be permitted to return to the field for 21 days.
“Everyone associated with the Big Ten should be very proud of the groundbreaking steps that are now being taken to better protect the health and safety of the student-athletes and surrounding communities,” said Dr. Jim Borchers, co-chair of the Return to Competition Task Force medical subcommittee in a statement.
The Big 10 conference includes Ohio State University, Penn State, Purdue, and Michigan State.
