As previously mentioned, New York Yankees Baseball is officially coming BACK to Fox Sports 640!
Here are the top 5 things that Yankees fans should be excited for:
5. John Sterling, Suzyn Waldman
The dynamic broadcasting team of Sterling and Waldman came to their first road block as Sterling skipped the Yankees’ four-game series in Tampa right before All-Star Weekend. That ended a streak of 5,060 straight Yankees games called by 81-year-old and long-time voice.
Before ending his streak, Sterling told MLB.com he will consider cutting back on his workload a bit during 2020 by skipping some road trips, but will definitely be back “as long as he still has a voice.” New York Yankees baseball wouldn’t be the same without Sterling’s classic home run calls and Waldman’s analysis of the game that she has loved since diapers.
4. A Healthy Offensive Lineup
The term “Next Man Up” was an understatement for the Yankees, but give credit to Aaron Boone,Brian Cashman, and the Yankees staff to find guys that filled in magically throughout the course of the season. One can argue that Gio Urshela Mike Tauchman, Mike Ford, and many others were the unsung heroes of 2019. After missing Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, former Yankee Didi Gregorius, and many others for the majority of the season, the Yankees look to enter the new year healthy for the first time in a long time.
3. The Long Ball
When you add the possibility that Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Gleyber Torres, DJ LeMahieu, Luke Voit, and a full roster of studs that can go deep will be ready for the start of 2020, it isn’t hard to predict that John Sterling will be a busy man this season. The Yankees have a hitter-friendly ball park and even though their single-season home run record was captured by the 2019 Minnesota Twins, don’t be surprised if the Bombers top their 268 mark this season.
2. Revenge
The Yankees won’t make any public remarks about the cheating scandals that were possibly used against them in their deep post-season runs by the Houston Astros and Boston Red Sox (pending), but that doesn’t mean that they don’t want revenge. After losing a divisional round and being one game away (2x) from the World Series, I mean, wouldn’t you?
1. Starting Pitching…FINALLY
It might be a while before we get to see the Yankees starting rotation fully healthy, but the Bombers and their fans are just chomping at the bit to see what they can do. After lacking starting pitching for quite sometime, the Yankees threw the Brinks truck at Gerrit Cole 9 YR/324 Mil, who many consider as the best pitcher in baseball.
New York will have to wait for SP James Paxton as he is expected to miss 3-4 months of the season after having a cyst removed from his lower back. He is expected to make a “full recovery” according to his agent Scott Boras.
SP Domingo German, will also have to serve an 81 game suspension after a domestic violence issue with his girlfiend. the 18-game-winner is expected to make a return to the lineup.
When you add the return of a healthy Luis Severino and veteran Masahiro Tanaka, the Yankees could go from having one of the league’s most questionable starting rotations to one of the MLB’s best.
Yankees fans should be thrilled because baseball is officially back with Fox Sports 640! Listen in as the Pinstripes go for number 28!
Will this finally be the Yankees year?
